FAQs

Who teaches the classes?

Each StageCoach school has a minimum of three teachers and a Principal (plus additional staff for Early Stages, Mini Stages, Junior Camps, etc.) It is StageCoach policy to hire only experienced and qualified teachers.  Our teachers are professional educators, performers, choreographers, directors or musicians working locally and all are subject to criminal background checks.

What should my child wear?

Term-time: At StageCoach students wear school colors: black, yellow or a combination of the two.  T-shirts, shorts, sweat pants, or dance pants are all appropriate for the StageCoach day.  You may order any of the above uniform through StageCoach.  By the third week of term students will need dance shoes which are compulsory footwear—ballet (early stages) or jazz shoes (main school).  All shoes may be ordered through StageCoach as well.  Students may not wear jeans, sandals, clogs or flip flops.
Summer Camp: There are no uniform requirements for summer camps, however, the restrictions are the same and clothing similar to term-time uniform should be worn whenever possible.

Are snacks/lunch provided?

Term-time: There is a 10 minute break between the second and third classes and students can bring a small snack with them each week—an apple, cookie, or crackers and water are all great choices.
Summer Camp: StageCoach provides a morning snack (but students are free to provide their own).  Students do need to bring their own lunches and drinks, which will not be refrigerated.  In most cases there are no microwaves and no drink or snack machines available.  Water bottles will be provided.

Do the students get any awards or recognition?

Term-time: StageCoach does not reward natural talent and ability.  Effort, perseverance and participation, however, should be acknowledged and medals are presented for long attendance.  Your child will receive a bronze medal after three years, a silver at four and a gold for five, etc.  In addition, one annual award is presented at the discretion of the Principal for endeavor and achievement.
Summer Camp: Attendance Award Pins are presented to students who attend for three or more years.

Do we get feedback on our child’s progress?

Term-time: StageCoach provides a written report outlining your child’s attitude and effort in June and December.  However, you should also see progress within your child through their behavior, confidence and attitude.
Summer Camp: No.  Although, when you see the final show, the progress should be very clear.

Will we see a show at the end of the session?

Term-time: StageCoach is a performing arts school and not a theatre company.  However, StageCoach does believe that the practical experience your child gains through performing is very important.  When we do provide performance opportunities they are intended to stimulate your child’s growth.  Each StageCoach school gives a schedule of presentations or performances throughout the year.
Summer: Yes!! Every Camp ends with a show.

Will our child have exams?

Term-time: While StageCoach schools do not conform to a strict syllabus, class work and curriculum covers many educational standards for the arts.  Through our association with Trinity College, London, students may, from time to time, be entered for group examinations in musical theatre.
Summer: No.

Will StageCoach get my child work?

StageCoach does not solicit employment opportunities for our students.  However, agencies and production companies do from time to time submit requests and casting opportunities which we pass on to parents if we feel they are appropriate.

Do you have any scholarships available?
Yes, we have a limited number of scholarships available at all of our schools and camps.

How do I apply for a scholarship?
Scholarships are awarded on a first come, first served basis.  A normal scholarship would be an amount equivalent to half the fees due.  To apply for a scholarship you should submit your registration and deposit as normal, adding a comment that you are applying for a scholarship.  When we process the application, if scholarship funds are still available they will automatically be applied and we will issue an acceptance letter with the details.  If no funds are available we will call you to discuss alternative options.

Is there any before or after care available?
Occasionally before and after care is available.  At StageCoach St. Paul camps this is usually administered by StageCoach staff.  At other locations before and after care may be available directly through the facility or school hosting the camp.
